My objectives are:
-Introducing a wider concept of security that addresses the roots causes of insecurity.
-Expanding environmental security to include present threats not only those of the future.
-Providing policymakers with recommendations addressing these insecurities.
Environmental Policies in Developing Countries
This course examines the failures and the successes of diverse environmental policies. The central theme of this course is the crucial and pervasive role of environmental policy in developing countries. Infective environmental management has the potential to destabilize these countries and the surrounding region.
The Environmental Challenges in Post- Conflict Countries
This course considers the difficulties of working in the environmental arena in post- conflict countries. The course will address the issues from the point of view of policymakers, and will highlight the need to prioritize among many worthy goals.
Insurgency in the Post-Conflict Countries
This course examines the variables that lead to triggering insurgency in post conflict situations with the objective of identifying early signs of insurgency and addressing them. This course analyzes the security policies in post-conflict with the objective of successful transition to stability.
Human Rights Challenges and National Security
This course examines the difficulties of protecting human rights while protecting national security. This course will analyze the threats to national security resulting from violating human rights. The course analyzes the policies implemented to protect national security at “home” and “overseas” with a focus on cases studies where the national security is jeopardized, because of human rights violations.
Nation Building Challenges in Post Conflict Countries
This course addresses the challenges facing policymakers in a post-conflict environment. Governments utilize a variety of policy tools to stabilize the country, providing security, and providing the basic services for the local populace.
